What speed is the BBS?
Connections from 1200 baud up to 14,400 baud are allowed.
How do I use the BBS?
Use your computerÆs modem to call (305) 428-0012. When a connection is made answer the questions as they appear. Your name will be kept confidential, so use your real name and choose a unique password.
How do I get adult access to the BBS?
You will need to fill out an age verification form and send it to Starware with a copy of your driver license. The easiest way to get this form is to download from the BBS. Logon to the system and from the main menu type "B" for Bulletins. This will give you a list of documents you can read that will give you more detailed instructions. You can also receive the form by mail or by fax.
How do I send Starware the age verification form and copy of my driver license?
You can send it by mail or the fastest way to gain access is by fax. However, when faxing you will need to enlarge the copy of your driver license to make it legible. Adult access will not be granted unless we have a readable copy.
How long does it take to get upgraded?
Once we receive your completed form and driver license copy it takes about 1 working day. If you are not upgraded immediately, please be patient and try calling back later.
WhatÆs on the Starware BBS?
There are hundreds of pictures, sound files and movie files from our extensive collection of CD-ROMs. Pictures are in GIF and JPEG formats. Sounds files are in the Windows WAV format. The movies are in Quick Time format. YouÆll also find many DOS, Windows and Mac utilities to view, listen and play these files.
Does the BBS have Internet access?
Not yet...we will be adding Internet mail in the coming months so users can read and exchange messages with the 20+ million Internet users around the world. Access through the Internet via a local number will not be added in the near future because high cost and difficulty of implementing a FTP site.
How do I download files?
There are two ways to download files.
1) While looking at the file directory, press the space bar to highlight a file name. Continue pressing the space bar until the file you want is highlighted, then press enter to mark the file. When you have finished marking all the files you want press ôDö for download. You will be prompted with: ôDownload batch?ö, enter ôYö to start the download process.
2) Enter "D" for download, then input the name of the individual file you wish to download.
How do I view the pictures I download?
To view the pictures that you have downloaded, you need a graphical viewer utility such as Photoshop, Corel Draw, or any other generic picture viewers. If you do not have any of these utilities, you can download them from the BBS (Located in the appreciate utilities directory). WINGIF.ZIP and VUEPRINT.ZIP are windows based viewers, and CSHOW.ZIP is a DOS based viewer.
How do I view the movies I download?
The movies are in a Quick Time Format. If you have Quick Time already installed on your system, use the player in your Quick Time directory. If you don't have Quick Time, simply download the file "Player.ZIP", which is located in the Windows Utilities Directory. Unzip the file and run setup.exe. It will install a movie player on your hard drive. Open up the movie player and select the movie that you wish to view.
How do I unzip a file?
Files with the ZIP extension are compressed so you can spend less time downloading, and more time viewing. To unzip a file you need to have the pkunzip.exe. To obtain all the ZIP utilities, download the file PKZ204G.EXE (located in the DOS Utilities).
How do I read my mail?
When you logon to the system, you will be prompted with, "You have new mail, would you like to view it now?". Enter "Y" to see your mail. Once you have finished reading your message, you can either, remove it by enter "K" for kill the message, "R" to reply to the message, or just press enter to leave the message in you mail box.
Can I read my mail off line?
Yes, and this will become more important when Internet is installed. If you have a bulk of messages and do not want to tie up your phone line to read and reply to them, type the command "QWK". This stands for Quick mail. It will put your mail in a neat package and download it to your hard drive. You will need a Quick Mail Reader to take advantage. The Quick Reader currently used on the system is the file CMPQWK.ZIP
